Monteverde Costa Rica is a destination sought after by many for different reasons. For me it has been a combination of climate, Quaker Community, being surrounded by the  Monteverde Cloud Forest. And the simple fact that so far I have been able to live here in peace, in my own way, not being bothered by anyone.  The amount of space, the incredible views and all the cultural activities are something you won't find in any other place in Costa Rica. One friend of mine put it like this, �The impression I got from up there is a bit of an Alternative Birkenstock kind of crowd�, and as another friend of mine put it: "Buying real estate in Costa Rica for retirement you can either get yourself a place in a gated community somewhere in Costa Rica or you can live in Monteverde".

The truth is that in Monteverde we do have a bit of the alternative Birkenstock and that gives us a very special flair that you either love or hate. There is not much in between I would say. And as experience shows most that think they can pull it of and don't have that Birkenstock touch hit the road after about 2 years.  Some of the hindrances are the wind and rain, bad roads, the distance to San Jose. But, when you sit at the galleron cultural and the kids from the area perform, and you look around and realize that you know nine out of ten people, and that they all feel really good because even though we are remote, this is what many dreamed of in life. Here on the top of this beautiful mountain in this wild forest and strange Quaker community, they find it in the silence of meeting on Sunday or in the middle of the forest or in that performance at the Galleron Cultural. And those are the ones that are made for this place.

We have never had a professional real estate service in this community. I have been the under cover real estate agent in Monteverde in the past, mostly out of a spirit of �lets help each other�, more than for economic reasons. After years of building and contracting in Monteverde I had become one of the people to go and ask. At some point that stops to work and that was the moment when we decided to either send everyone to the moon or open an office. I have gotten quiet a bit of criticism over this decision but I like to look into the future, and what I can see are a lot of people being a lot better off with a professional real estate agent in Monteverde to help them, than just relying on the good luck of running into the right person.
